Denham and Monkey Mia Camping
There are three Caravan Parks in Denham. All are pet friendly and have amenities generally associated with caravan parks. Blue Dolphin Caravan Park, Shark Bay Caravan Park and the Denham Seaside Caravan Park. The RAC Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort is located at Monkey Mia and offers powered and unpowered sites. Shark Bay Campsites
Please note that these campsites lie within the area commonly known as South Peron which is now designated as a Class A National Park. Bookings for dates after 1 January 2025 are now available via DBCA's ParkStay online booking system. From 1 January 2025 onwards, bookings will no longer be available via the Shark Bay Discovery & Visitor Centre.
There are four coastal sites south of Denham: Eagle Bluff, Fowlers Camp, Whalebone Bay and Goulet Bluff. The sites are accessible using a two-wheel drive vehicle via unsealed roads so caution is advised. Drive to conditions and take care in larger vehicle's. The campsites have no amenities. Maximum of four cars per camping site, bookings are taken on a first come, first serve basis.
To book an overnight camp
- You must have a permit which cost $15 per night per vehicle for up to four people. We do not offer refunds for permits.
- Permits can only be issued on the day that you intend to camp, we DO NOT take advance bookings.
- Permits are for 24 hours and restricted to ONE NIGHT ONLY at your selected camp site.
- To buy a permit, please contact the Shark Bay Discovery and Visitor Centre in person or calling 08 9948 1590 and paying via credit card, please also have your vehicle registration number handy.
- The sites are patrolled by a Ranger, however you cannot buy the permit from the Ranger.
- If you arrive outside of the Centre's opening hours, please purchase a camping permit immediately the next working day.
Rules for Campsites
- Only four persons per vehicle
- One night stay only
- All vehicles must display a permit
- Camp in designated (cleared) areas only
- Quiet hours between 10pm – 6am
- Total fire ban, camp fires and open flames are strictly prohibited
- Please do not pull up vegetation
- Stay on tracks and do not drive on sandbars
- Chemical toilets or port-a-loos are required. Otherwise please ensure that waste is buried
- All rubbish must be removed from the site
- Help us protect our pristine World Heritage Environment
Francois Peron National Park
If you have a high clearance four-wheel drive you can camp in the Francois Peron National Park, no booking is required but there are entry and camping fees. For more information click here
Nanga Bay
Nanga Bay Resort is a caravan park 55 km south of Denham. They offer powered and unpowered sites close to the beach. As well as a range of basic accommodation. For more information click here
Hamelin Pool
Hamelin Pool Caravan Park is located 35 km from the North West Coastal Highway and 106 km from Denham. They offer powered and unpowered sites. For more information click here
Edel Land/Steep Point
The area can only be accessed by four-wheel drive. Facilities in this remote area are limited. You will need to bring in all you need for your stay and take all your rubbish out with you.
Access to all camping sites is controlled by an online booking system and advance bookings are required, to secure a camp site book here
Sites are very popular so booking well in advance is recommended.
Rest Stops
Distances between remote towns can be vast on the West Coast. Conditions can get very hot and dry, please travel with ample food and fresh water and plan regular rest stops.
There are a number of roadhouses and rest stops on the North West Coastal Highway between Geraldton and Port Hedland.
